The London Magazine|Deadline: Window for submissions opens in July; it’s recommended to submit early in the month

Short fiction should address mature and sophisticated themes. Moreover, it should have an elegance of style, structure, and characterization.

They don’t publish science fiction, fantasy writing, or erotica.

Short stories should be up to 4,000 words in length.

Driftwood Press|Deadline: July 15, 2025

The Adrift Short Story Competition

Fiction only. 1,000-6,000 word limit. The work must not have been previously published.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted.

Fee: 30$ | Pay: The winner will receive $500 and five copies of the anthology in which the story appears.

Notes: Throughout the process, readers will be notified if their story is passed on or reaches the finalist pool. This often results in a quicker response than other contests, where writers often have to wait until everything has been decided.


Fractured Lit|Deadline: July 14, 2025

Fractured Lit publishes flash fiction with emotional resonance, with characters who come to life through their actions and responses to the world around them. We’re searching for a flash that investigates the mysteries of being human, with the sorrow and the joy of connecting to a diverse population.

Fee: 20$ allows up to two stories of 1,000 words or fewer each per entry | Pay: The winner will receive $500 and five copies of the anthology in which the story appears.

Type: flash and microfiction only—1,000 word count maximum per story.

Notes: The shortlist will be announced within ten to twelve weeks of the contest’s close. All writers will be notified when the results are final.
