Fractured Lit 2026 Flash Fiction Open | Deadline: July 12

The Fractured Lit Flash Fiction Open is accepting submissions from May 11 to July 12, 2026. Not themes. No prompts. Special guest judge, Pamela Painter, will choose one grand-prize winner and fifteen finalists from a shortlist of forty stories chosen by Fractured Lit editors.

Fee: $20 reading fee allows up to two stories of 1,000 words or fewer each per entry. Writers from historically marginalized groups may submit for free until a cap of 25 submissions is reached in this category.

Payment/Prize: The first-place winner will receive $2,000 and publication, while 15 finalists will receive $100 and publication.

Type: Flash and microfiction only. No reprints, including self-published work. Simultaneous submissions are okay.

MER | Deadline: July 15

From May 1 to July 15, MER is open for literary submissions to their annual print issue (25th anniversary) and to MER online quarterly. MER publishes poetry, fiction, creative prose/nonfiction, hybrid works, and art on mothering or motherhood.

Fee: $3 or free with a $16 subscription purchase

Payment: A complimentary PDF contributor copy will be mailed to all contributors with an opportunity to purchase hard copies at reduced contributor rates.

Type: Poetry–up to 3 poems in a single Word or text document of no more than 6 pages. Creative Prose, Fiction, Cross-genre–one piece up to 1000 words, or several short-short pieces that total fewer than 1000 words. Visual art–up to four works of art that relate to mother or motherhood.

Narrative Spring 2026 Contest | Deadline: June 26

An expansive contest open to fiction and nonfiction ranging from short shorts to 15,000 words.

Fee: $27 | Pay: First Prize is $2,500, Second Prize is $1,000, Third Prize is $500, and up to ten finalists will receive $100 each

Type: Short shorts, short stories, essays, memoirs, photo essays, graphic stories, all forms of literary nonfiction, and excerpts from longer works of both fiction and nonfiction

They do not solicit work and nominate for various prizes.

Guest judge is award winning author Donal Ryan.

Fee: €12 – €31 | Pay: 1^st prize – € 1,000, 2^nd prize – € 500, 3^rd prize – € 300

Superlative Quarterly Micro-Fiction Competition | Deadline: June 25

They focus on supporting their authors through publication, broad promotion, nomination to major prizes, and whenever possible offer free feedback.

Fee: £15 | Pay: £150 winner prize

Type: Fiction – mini saga of exactly 50 words or flash 51-500 words

Note: They offer monthly themed and unthemed submissions and their annual poetry and short story competetion closes in August.

Four Tulips Break the Rules Contest | Deadline: June 30

Are you a rule breaker? Four Tulips is looking for what happens when writing breaks the rules.

Fee: $2 | Pay: The winner and finalists will be published in the online magazine and in a Four Tulips print anthology. Winners receive 5 free copies of the print anthology.

Type: Fiction and creative nonfiction (5,000 word max) and poetry (up to 3 poems)

Lascaux Prize in Flash Fiction | Deadline: June 30

The Lascaux Review places an emphasis on accessible, beautiful, literary writing.

Fee: $15 | Pay: Winner receives $1000, a bronze medallion, and publication

Type: Flash fiction (up to 1000 words each), accepting up to 3 per submission

Note: Open to previously published and unpublished work and all entries are considered for publication.

Bellevue Literary Review | Deadline: July 1

The Bellevue Literary Review seeks high-caliber, unpublished work, broadly and creatively related to themes of health, healing, illness, the mind, and the body for general submission and BLR 2027 literary prizes. They encourage writers to read BLR before submitting.

Fee: $5 for general submissions, $20 for contest | Pay: $75 for poetry and $150 for prose for general submissions, $1,000 for winners and $300 for honorable mentions in contest
